Planning a wedding can be stressful, and managing all of the people involved while keeping an eye on the logistics can feel like a nightmare.
Fortunately, you don't have to turn into a bridezilla to get things done. Instead, try using a few leadership tricks to check off your to-do list.
Delegate
Delegating isn't about sloughing off responsibility. It's about knowing that you can't do everything yourself and playing to the strengths of those around you. Think carefully about your closest friends and family's strengths and trust those people to complete important jobs that fall within their areas of expertise.
Be Tenacious
Your wedding is your special day, and you don't have to take a backseat role. It's okay to be assertive. Don't let yourself be sidelined or talked into doing something you don't want. Just be prepared to be flexible if things don't go according to plan.
Be Agile
Setbacks are inevitable. When things don't go quite according to plan, good leaders adjust their plans and move forward rather than wallowing or panicking. If your venue falls through or the catering menu changes at the last minute, take a deep breath and figure out how to adjust and move forward.
Collaborate
This goes hand-in-hand with delegation. Don't feel like you have to come up with every idea on your own, and don't try to do everything by yourself. Bring in help where you can! Tasks like addressing envelopes, arranging flowers, or crafting place settings are more fun when you have others to do them with. Having a group of volunteers to watch over will help you keep an eye on the prize without getting exhausted. Just be sure to compensate your volunteers with good food, drinks, or other perks to make their time worthwhile.
Gather Information
The best leaders start any decision-making process by gathering information and forming a complete picture of what needs to be done. Don't make any decisions without knowing all of the details. Comparison shop between multiple bakeries, venues, DJs, or other vendors to be sure you're making the best choice for your needs.
Good leadership is the cornerstone of event planning, and this is as true for your own wedding as anything you do at work. Don't let yourself be distracted from your goals. Instead, pursue your dream wedding with tenacity, delegation, and collaboration (when necessary), and you're sure to create an event to be remembered for a lifetime.
