Most Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to finalize a video?

We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but it can take up to 12 hours from the time you pay and publish. This applies to weekdays and weekends.

Can I add late submissions to my video while it's publishing?

Yes, you can reopen the Event Page and add more media. Please note that your video is currently in our production queue, and by reopening the event it will interrupt the production of your video.

As the creator, when you reopen the Event Page you can add more media, continue to arrange your media, and republish your video which will restart the production of your video.

If you choose to republish, there will be a 30% republishing fee.

Can I add text or music?

You can not upload custom music, but we do have song options for you to select. You can open the music library from the Event Page to listen and choose a song you feel would be the best fit.

Soon, we will be launching custom messages so that you can include written messages throughout your video.

How will I know if a contributor submitted a video?

As the creator of the video, you’ll be able to see and preview submissions from contributors.

You’ll also receive an email notification every time there is a new submission.

If you do not want to receive these email notifications, you can change this in your Account Settings. Navigate to My Account and look under the Notifications tab. From there, deselect the Activity on Your VidDay and you no longer receive emails notifying you of submissions.

QUESTIONS FROM CONTRIBUTORS

Uploading Media

How do I know if my video or photo has been submitted?

Once your video has been uploaded, you’ll see a green message “Thanks, your submission has been added.”

We ask for your name and email to get notified if the creator decides to share the final video with contributors. Contributors will also receive an upload confirmation email if they have entered their information.

Is there a maximum time limit for my video submission?

There is no time limit of video submissions. You may upload up to 10 files or up to a maximum of 1 GB at time. We recommend keeping video clips under 2 minutes to maintain a nice flow in the final video.

Upload times will vary depending on the number of files, the size of the files, and the strength of your WiFi connection.

QUESTIONS FROM CREATORS

Getting Started

How does the process work?

You start a video by answering a few questions:

Who is the video for?

What is the occasion?

When do you need all video and photo submissions?

This creates a private Event Page that will be used to collect media.

Next, you can add videos and photos to the Event Page and share the Event Page link with other people so that they can submit their videos and photos.

Once all submissions are in, click the Pay & Publish button, and VidDay makes a beautiful video for you. Keep in mind, due to higher demand it can take up to 12 hours to finalize your video.

When your video is ready, you’ll be notified by email and the final video will appear on the Event Page. From there, you can share it online and download it as a keepsake.

What key features should I know about?

By starting a new video, you've created an Event Page to add and manage media. You're the creator of the video, which means you, and only you can preview and edit submitted media.

If you can’t see submissions, it might mean you’re not logged in to your VidDay account.

All other people who visit the Event Page can not see submissions. What they see is a simplified version of the page with contextual information, the submission deadline, and a button to upload their media.

To invite people to contribute their videos and photos, simply share the Event Page link.

As the creator, you have the ability to arrange media in the order of appearance for the final video. Tap and hold thumbnails to drag them around.

We suggest that you use our Photo Editor to crop and rotate photos to make them look 'just right.'

Can I preview, edit, or delete the submitted media?

You can preview all video and photo submissions. You also have the option to delete media if you need to. Only photos can be edited with our Photo Editor. Click here to learn more about our Photo Editor.

Can I arrange the order of the videos and photos?

Yes, tap and hold thumbnails to drag and drop them in the order of preference.

The order of the media on the Event Page will be the order of appearance in the final video. The order starts from the top to bottom, which means the first media on the Event Page will be the first media to appear in the final video.

What will the final video look like?

You can choose a theme to make your video gift look beautiful and personalized. Have a look at our themes here.

How are the photo background scenes made in the Collage theme?

The backgrounds are automatically populated with screenshots from the video and photo submissions.

Can I use a different theme?

Yes, you can select the theme you want to use from the Event Page.

Can I add text or music?

You can not upload custom music, but we do have song options for you to select. You can open the music library from the Event Page to listen and choose a song you feel would be the best fit.

Soon, we will be launching custom messages so that you can include written messages throughout your video.

Inviting Others

I can invite other people?

VidDay can be a collaborative video project. You can invite friends, family, and colleagues to submit video messages and photos to make the surprise video that much more special.

How do I invite people to submit their videos and photos?

To invite other people to contribute their videos and photos, simply share the link (a.k.a. URL) of the Event Page. You can share the Event Page link by email, text message, Messenger, WhatsApp or however which way works best for you.

A pre-written message is ready for you when you invite people by text message, WhatsApp, or email. This message includes who the video is for, the occasion, the deadline for submissions, along with the event link to visit the Event Page where they can submit their media.

You have full control to edit or delete this message in order to write your own invite message.

Can I edit the submission deadline?

You can edit the event details from the Event Page. Look for the Edit Event Details button under the deadline.

Please note that contributors can continue to submit their videos and photos after the submission deadline has passed. The Event Page is only closed to submissions once you hit the Pay & Publish button to finalize the video.

Is there a maximum amount of media that I can add, or people that I can invite?

There is no maximum. We encourage you to add lots of videos and photos and invite as many people as you’d like. Each video and photo will be featured. Photos are featured for roughly four seconds each.

Will everyone see the submitted media?

Only the creator will be able to see and manage submitted media.

The cover photo is the only media that is public-facing as it’s used to invite contributors to submit their videos and photos.

How will I know if a contributor submitted a video?

As the creator of the video, you’ll be able to see and review submissions from contributors.

Publishing

What’s publishing?

Publishing is the action you take to finalize the video in order to share it as a gift with the recipient. When all your media has been added, tap the Pay & Publish button to get your video finalized.

Can I see my video before paying?

No, we need to make the video for it to be viewable. We have a satisfaction guaranteed or your money back policy to help offset the fact there are no previews before paying. Watch an example here.

What should I know before publishing a video?

We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but it can take up to 12 hours.

Make sure that the video clips and photos are in order. Arrange media in sequence, starting from top-left to bottom-right. That will be the order of appearance in the final video.

Check all the video clips to make sure they have audio. If there are video clips without audio, please reach out to the contributor and ask them to resubmit their clip, or proceed as is.

We suggest you use our Photo Editor to edit photos as they will appear in the final videos as they appear on the Event Page.

Wait until everyone has submitted. You will have to reopen the Event Page to add or edit media while your video is finalizing or published. By reopening the event, you will lose access to the video until the video is republished.

If you choose to republish, there will be a 30% republishing fee.

Can I add late submissions while the video is publishing?

Yes, you can reopen the Event Page and add more media. Tap the Cancel Production button from the Event Page to reopen the Event Page.

By reopening the Event Page, you cancel the production of your video. You will need to publish your video again to restart the production. If you choose to republish, there will be a 30% republishing fee.

Is there a way to finalize the video quicker than within 12 hours?

We work towards finalizing your video as quickly as possible but it can take up to 12 hours. This applies to weekdays and weekends.

If you need your video sooner rather than later, ask us through our live chat to promote your video to the top of the production queue to expedite the process.

Can I add more media after my video is published?

Yes, but you will need to reopen the Event Page to add more media. On the Event Page that is hosting the final video, click the Reopen Event button found at the bottom of the page.

When the Event Page is reopened, you will lose the current video and you will see the individual photos and videos again. From there, you can go ahead and add or delete media.

If you choose to republish, there will be a 30% republishing fee.

Payment

How much does a VidDay video cost?

The process is free to start which means that you can start a video and invite people to submit media without committing to payment.

Once you’re ready to publish your video, the cost will depend on the length of the final video.

Here’s the price breakdown:

0–9 minutes → $12 USD

10–19 minutes → $24 USD

20–29 minutes → $36 USD

Videos over 30 minutes will incur an additional $12 for every additional 10 minutes in length.

You may want to reopen the video to add more videos. If this is the case you will need to republish the video. You will need to pay again to republish your video, and there is a 70% discount applied. For example, a $12 video will cost $3.60 to republish.

When do I pay?

You only need to pay when you’re ready to finalize your video. Click the Pay & Publish button to go to the payment page. Once payment is successful, your video will get queued into production for a member of the VidDay team to finalize.

Which payment types do you accept?

We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

Sharing the Final Video

How will the final video be delivered to me?

When the video is ready, you'll receive an email notification. The finished video is hosted on the Event Page that you created to collect media. The video clips and photos are no longer visible, and in its place is the finished video. From there, you can watch, manage, and share the video with the recipient and others.

By default, the privacy of the video is set to Private. Be sure that you're logged in to your VidDay account to see the finished video, or else the event page will appear closed. To make the video available for others to watch, you'll need to change the privacy setting.

Is the final video private?

You have full control of the privacy of the VidDay video you created. The video is Private by default, so only you (the one who created the video) will be able to watch the video at first. To change the privacy setting, look for the privacy toggle below the video. This toggle controls whether the video is Private or Public.

Can I only share the video with the recipient?

You can keep the video Private, and only share it with the recipient. To do so, you'll share the Private Link.

The Private Link allows the recipient to view the video on the Event Page while keeping it Private. Only people who have this link can watch the video (such as friends or family to whom you send the link).

Tap the Private Link button below the video to copy the link to your clipboard. Copied to your clipboard means the link is ready to paste in a text message, email, or however which way you want to share the link.

How can I share the video publicly?

To share the finished video with contributors and others, set the privacy as Public. By doing so, everyone who has the Event Page link—the same link that they used to submit their video clips and photos—will be able to watch the video. Your video can only be directly accessed using the Event Page link. It's not uploaded to YouTube without your permission, and it can't be found through search engines.

To make things easier, you can use the share buttons to quickly send the link through email, text message, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and more.

And if you share on Facebook, tag the contributors who helped you make the video.

Is there an easy way to share the finished video with contributors?

With the tap of a button, you can notify the contributors who submitted their email address along with their submission. We bet that they're super excited to see the finished video too! Tap the Notify Contributors button, and VidDay will send them an email to let them know that the video is ready to watch.

Can I download the final video?

You can download the final video and keep it as a souvenir.

When you are logged in to your VidDay account, you'll see the download button underneath the final video on the right.

Downloading is only available on desktop computers and laptops. For the most part, phones and tablets block the ability to download large files from internet browsers. For this reason, the download button is not visible on mobile and tablet devices.

Can I download the individual videos/photos that were submitted?

This might be a future feature, but at the moment you can only download the final video.

Troubleshooting for Creators

How can I find the video gift that I started?

The video gift you’ve started are found on your dashboard when logged in to your VidDay account.

My video clip won’t upload… what should I do?

Refreshing a page will cause the webpage to update with the latest version, and you can also fix some site errors, such as the ones encountered when a page doesn't fully load.

Another common reason someone experiences uploading issues is a weak WiFi signal. For VidDay to upload videos correctly, we'll need you to have an upload speed of 10Mbps or faster. Here's a great online tool to help you measure your internet speed.

https://www.speedtest.net/

We suggest using a WiFi signal not slowed down by other devices and people. And to not upload too many files at once.

You can also reboot your wireless router:

Unplug your router or modem from its power outlet (don't just turn it off).

Wait 15-20 seconds, then plug it back in.

Allow the device a couple of minutes to turn back on.

Why is the final video not playing in full?

Please check your Wi-Fi connection as the video may not be buffering correctly. You can try downloading the video on a laptop or desktop computer ahead of time to avoid the buffering issues.
